Summary

Endometrial stromal nodules are rare uterine tumors. Careful microscopic examination after hysterectomy is crucial to distinguish this benign condition from malignant endometrial stromal sarcoma.

Background:

Endometrial stromal nodules (ESN) are uncommon benign tumors originating from the uterine endometrium.
Distinguishing ESN from endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is critical due to differing prognoses and treatment strategies.

Observation:

A 40-year-old woman presented with symptoms suggestive of leiomyoma and ovarian cystadenoma.
Initial ultrasonography did not definitively identify the endometrial stromal nodule.

Findings:

Microscopic examination of the hysterectomy specimen confirmed an endometrial stromal nodule alongside a benign ovarian serous cystadenoma.
Histopathology remains the gold standard for diagnosing ESN and differentiating it from ESS.

Implications:

Hysterectomy is the recommended treatment for suspected ESN to allow for complete margin evaluation.
Accurate pathological assessment is vital for appropriate patient management and prognosis in cases of endometrial stromal tumors.
