[Traumatic myopia due to ciliary body detachment].

    Summary

Blunt eye trauma caused sudden myopia in a young man due to iris-lens displacement. Persistent hypotony and shallow anterior chamber suggest ciliary body detachment as an uncommon cause.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Trauma Research

    Background:

    • Myopia can occur after ocular trauma.
    • Ciliary body spasm is a common cause of traumatic myopia.

    Observation:

    • A 20-year-old male experienced immediate myopia post-blunt eye trauma.
    • Ultrasonography showed anterior iris-lens diaphragm displacement without changes in lens thickness or axial length.

    Findings:

    • The patient developed a shallow anterior chamber and hypotony (low intraocular pressure).
    • Optic disc and macular edema were observed.
    • Persistent hypotony and shallow anterior chamber for months indicated ciliary body detachment.

    Implications:

    • Ciliary body detachment is an uncommon mechanism for traumatic myopia.
    • This case highlights a rare cause of vision changes after eye injury.
