Meta-analysis on the curative effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer

Aim:
Aim of the study was to discuss the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer by meta-analysis.
Methods:
Retrieve Chinese periodical full-text database, Medline, Wanfang database, Coehrane library, and preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy efficacy of gastric cancer in Embase. The keywords used were as follows: gastric carcinoma, retrieval effect, neoadjuvant chemoradiation with Chinese and English retrieval. The RevMan5.0 software was used to conducted the meta-analysis.
Results:
A total of 16 articles were included. The study has a total of 1937 cases. The results of the neoadjuvant chemotherapy group showed that the survival and radical resection rate is higher than the traditional surgery group. The palliative resection rate is lower than the traditional surgery group (radical resection rate: odds ratio [OR]=1900, 95%CI 1.30 rese, P<0.0l, survival rate: OR=1.83, 95%CI 1.43 rate, P<0.01; palliative resection rate: OR=0.54, 95%CI 0.33, P=0.01). There was no significant difference between the pathological staging of the two groups (OR=1.03, 95%CI 0.623, P=0.90).
Conclusion:
The present clinical evidence shows that neoadjuvant chemotherapy can improve the survival rate of gastric cancer and the radical resection rate.
