[Reasons for the late diagnosis of Reiter's disease]

The main causes of the delay in reaching the appropriate diagnosis of Reiter's disease were analysed. It was concluded that even if the only sign from the disease symptomatic triad (mainly slowly progressing nonspecific urethritis or prostatitis) was observed, Reiter's disease should be suspected and its verification include immunological techniques. Tetracycline antibiotics were found to be mandatory indicated as an etiotropic treatment.
