Summary

Most pregnancy wheel apps are inaccurate or consumer-based. A new scoring system, APPLICATIONS, was used to rate the remaining apps for accuracy and applicability by healthcare providers.

Background:

  • Pregnancy wheel applications (apps) are widely used by patients and healthcare providers.
  • The accuracy and comprehensiveness of available pregnancy apps vary significantly.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify and evaluate the top-rated pregnancy wheel applications.
  • To assess the accuracy and applicability of pregnancy apps using a novel scoring system.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive list of 55 pregnancy wheel apps was compiled.
  • Apps were screened for consumer-based information or inaccuracies.
  • The remaining apps were rated using the developed APPLICATIONS scoring system, evaluating objective and subjective components.

Main Results:

  • Out of 55 apps, 39 (71%) were excluded due to being consumer-based or inaccurate.
  • Only 16 (29%) apps met the criteria for analysis.
  • The APPLICATIONS scoring system was applied to these 16 apps.

Conclusions:

  • A significant majority of pregnancy wheel apps are not suitable for clinical use.
  • The developed APPLICATIONS scoring system provides a robust method for evaluating health apps.
