Surgical skill is influenced by both innate aptitude and dedicated practice. High-aptitude students are more likely to pursue surgical careers, regardless of initial interest.

- To investigate the influence of psychomotor aptitude, visual-spatial aptitude, and interest in surgery on laparoscopic skill acquisition.

- Both aptitude and motivated practice are equally important for surgical skill development.
- Lower-aptitude students do not necessarily practice more.
- High aptitude correlates with a greater likelihood of pursuing a surgical career, irrespective of initial interest.
