Background:

Follicular tumors of the thyroid gland require precise diagnosis.
Morphological assessment is key in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid nodules.
Accurate preoperative and intraoperative diagnostics influence surgical planning and patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of intraoperative histological study for thyroid follicular tumors.
To compare intraoperative findings with final histological diagnoses.
To assess the impact of urgent histological study on surgical strategy for thyroid nodules.

Main Methods:

Staged morphological assessment of 44 patients with thyroid follicular tumors.
Preoperative fine-needle biopsy followed by urgent intraoperative histological study.
Comparison of intraoperative findings with final histological research results.

Main Results:

Micro-follicular adenoma was diagnosed in 50% of patients, with autoimmune thyroiditis in 13.6%.
Papillary carcinoma was identified in 11.4% and follicular cancer in 9.1% intraoperatively.
Final histological study confirmed or revised diagnoses, including oncocytoma in 2.3% of cases.

Conclusions:

Fine-needle biopsy is recommended for all thyroid nodules, regardless of size.
Urgent histological study is advised for undetermined intraoperative findings.
Intraoperative histological analysis guides surgical strategy for thyroid follicular tumors.
