[Hemangiopericytoma in nasal cavity: a case report]

Background:

• Nasal hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumor.
• This case highlights a 46-year-old female with a decade of nasal symptoms.

Observation:

• Patient presented with left nasal congestion, purulent discharge, and occasional epistaxis.
• Physical exam revealed a friable, bleeding neoplasm in the left nasal cavity.
• CT imaging showed extensive sinus involvement, initially suggestive of inflammatory polyps.

Findings:

• Initial biopsy suggested hemangioma, but postoperative pathology confirmed hemangiopericytoma.
• Immunohistochemistry results were Vimentin(+), Smooth muscle actin(+), Desmin(-), CD31(-), and CD34(-).
• Transnasal endoscopic surgery successfully resected the tumor without adjuvant therapy.

Implications:

• This case underscores the importance of considering rare tumors in chronic nasal conditions.
• Successful surgical management of nasal hemangiopericytoma is demonstrated.
• Long-term surveillance is crucial, although follow-up was lost in this instance.
