Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign oral lesion often seen in young women. This case highlights a pregnancy-associated PG that recurred with a satellite lesion after surgical removal.
Area of Science:
- Oral pathology
- Dermatology
- Obstetrics
Background:
- Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a non-neoplastic, tumor-like growth resulting from minor trauma.
- It commonly affects young adults, particularly females, presenting as a vascular, exophytic lesion.
- Oral PGs are often associated with hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy.
Observation:
- A 30-year-old pregnant woman presented with a pyogenic granuloma on the anterior palate.
- The lesion was a smooth, lobulated, erythematous, and hemorrhagic papule.
- The patient had a history of minor trauma to the area.
Findings:
- The pyogenic granuloma recurred one year after surgical excision.
- A satellite lesion also developed alongside the recurrent pyogenic granuloma.
- Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma.
Implications:
- Pregnancy-associated pyogenic granulomas may have a higher recurrence rate.
- Close monitoring and prompt treatment are essential for recurrent oral pyogenic granulomas.
- Understanding the hormonal influence on pyogenic granuloma development is crucial for patient management.

The spleen is a vital organ in the lymphatic system, nestled in the upper left side of the abdomen.
