Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

    Background:

    • The original Simulation Effectiveness Tool (SET) was updated to align with current nursing education standards.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • Undergraduate nursing students (N=1,288) from two programs completed the SET-M post-simulation.

    • Four subscales emerged from factor analysis: Prebriefing, Learning, Confidence, and Debriefing.
    • All subscales exhibited acceptable internal consistency.

    • The SET-M is a psychometrically sound instrument for evaluating simulation effectiveness.
    • The revised tool provides a valid and reliable measure of student perceptions in simulation environments.
    • SET-M supports the assessment of learning within simulation-based nursing education.
