Abstract:
Transesophageal echocardiography is a relatively new imaging technique that is rapidly evolving into a major tool for general cardiac imaging in a variety of venues. This article focuses on the current probe technology, the technique of performing transesophageal echocardiography, standard anatomic image views used, and currently accepted indications for intraoperative and ambulatory transesophageal echocardiography.
