Abstract:
This review focuses on the action of somatomedins IGF-1 and IGF-2, and in particular the role of IGF-1 in cell multiplication and differentiation. A brief overview is given of the factors controlling IGF-1 flow rate expression in the tissues. Factors influencing IGF-1 plasma levels, i.e. age, and insufficiency or excess of growth hormone, are discussed.
