Summary
Robotic brachytherapy (BT) systems can enhance the underutilized therapeutic potential of BT, a radiation therapy technique. This study reviews current robotic BT advancements and presents a novel CT-guided parallel robot solution to improve accessibility and training.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Medical Robotics
- Radiation Therapy
Background:
- External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) overshadows brachytherapy (BT), limiting its therapeutic and technical applications.
- Declining expertise, fewer indications, and inadequate training for radiation therapy residents hinder BT adoption.
- Robotic brachytherapy (BT) systems offer a potential solution to address these challenges and improve BT accessibility.
