Summary

Missing mandibular molars often cause maxillary molar overeruption. This study introduces a reliable intrusion method using only palatal mini-implants to correct overerupted molars, avoiding side effects on adjacent teeth.

Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Orthodontics
  • Dental Implantology

Background:

  • Mandibular first molar agenesis is common in adults.
  • Maxillary first molar overeruption frequently results from missing mandibular first molars.
  • Conventional treatments often require both buccal and palatal orthodontic mini-implants for skeletal anchorage.

Observation:

  • Palatal mini-implants demonstrate higher success rates compared to buccal mini-implants.
  • Overerupted maxillary molars present a significant orthodontic challenge.
  • Minimizing side effects on adjacent teeth is crucial in molar intrusion therapy.

Findings:

  • A novel orthodontic intrusion method utilizing exclusively palatal mini-implants is presented.
  • This technique effectively intrudes overerupted maxillary molars.
  • The approach employs limited fixed appliances alongside palatal mini-implants.

Implications:

  • This method offers a more successful and potentially less invasive alternative for correcting molar overeruption.
  • It provides a reliable strategy for managing cases of missing mandibular first molars.
  • The findings may influence standard orthodontic treatment protocols for molar intrusion.
