Summary

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) using a 3-trocar technique is a safe and effective treatment for ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO). This method simplifies the procedure without compromising patient outcomes.

Context:

Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is a common condition requiring surgical intervention.
Laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) is the preferred surgical approach for UPJO.

Purpose:

To present a standardized 3-trocar laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) technique.
To share practical considerations and maneuvers for optimizing exposure and simplifying the LP procedure for UPJO.

Summary:

A retrospective review of 13 patients undergoing 3-trocar LP for UPJO.
The study details operative time, complication rates, and outcomes, including management of pre-operative stenting and calyceal stones.
No conversions to open surgery or additional trocar insertions were necessary.

Impact:

The 3-trocar LP technique is demonstrated as a feasible and safe option for UPJO correction.
The presented maneuvers can simplify the procedure and potentially be adapted for other laparoscopic surgeries.
