Using a Call Centre for Data Mining and Data Capturing - Pilot Study Using Glasgow Coma Outcome Scale in Head Injured

Trauma healthcare delivery is limited in rural areas of India.
Aim:
The aim of the study was to assess the Glasgow coma outcome scale via a call centre for head injured patients who were discharged after head injury.
Methods:
Glascow coma scales were assessed by call-center staff using a set of standard questions in Hindi language.
Results:
484 patients were admitted during the study period. Of these, 63% (n = 305) were from rural areas. After patients were discharged, call centre staff were able to reach 84% of patients on their phones and elicit GOS in all cases.
Conclusions:
Call centers have the potential to revolutionize delivery of trauma healthcare to rural areas.
