Background:

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection poses a significant global health challenge.
Blood donation screening is crucial for preventing transfusion-transmitted infections.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze trends in anti-HIV antibody-positive blood donors in western India.
To assess the statistical significance of changes in HIV prevalence in blood donations over time.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of blood donation screening data for anti-HIV antibodies.
Statistical comparison of HIV antibody-positive donor proportions before and after 1986.

Main Results:

A rising trend of anti-HIV antibody-positive donors was identified in western India.
A statistically significant increase in positive reactors was observed after 1986 (p < 0.05).

Conclusions:

The findings indicate a concerning rise in HIV prevalence among blood donors in western India.
Public health interventions and continued surveillance are essential to address this trend.
