Subjective accounts of quality of life are vital if we are to better understand the experience of people with dementia; however, cognitive limitations and lack of insight have been seen as barriers to self-reporting in quality of life assessment. Nevertheless, it has been suggested that awareness of feelings may be preserved even when awareness of cognitive deficits is impaired.
