This study developed preactivated thiolated chitosan-EDTA (Ch-EDTA-cys-2MNA) conjugates with enhanced mucoadhesive and chelating properties for drug delivery. The novel conjugates demonstrated improved mucosal adhesion and maintained significant chelating capacity without toxicity.
