Background:

  • Struma ovarii, a rare ovarian teratoma composed of thyroid tissue, can present with or without hyperthyroidism.
  • Associated cervical thyroid nodules are infrequently reported in conjunction with struma ovarii.

Observation:

  • A 24-year-old female presented with a right thyroid cold nodule diagnosed as benign follicular adenoma via fine needle aspiration biopsy.
  • The thyroid nodule enlarged despite suppressive therapy, necessitating surgical intervention.
  • A previously undetected left pelvic mass was discovered during physical examination prior to surgery.

Findings:

  • Laparotomy revealed the pelvic mass to be a cystic tumor of the left ovary, histologically confirmed as benign thyroid tissue.
  • Histological examination of the right thyroid nodule post-lobectomy also confirmed benign follicular adenoma.
