[Activity of the phagocytic process in patients with atopic dermatitis]
Abstract:
The phagocytic activity was determined in 18 patients with atopic dermatitis who were treated in the Dermatology Department, Medical Academy in Wrocław. Reduced phagocytic activity was found in 12 patients. In 3 cases this was caused by a defect in phagocytic cells, in the remaining 9 cases this was due to disturbances of the opsonizing properties of the serum. The serum of these patients caused mainly a fall of the bactericidal activity of the leucocytes, and this was caused more frequently by a deficit of the opsonizing factors than by the presence of inhibitor. In the sera attenuating the engulfing and intracellular killing of bacteria presence of immune complexes was demonstrated. The disappearance of immune complexes during treatment restored normal function of the serum during the process of phagocytosis.
