Applications Of NMR In Biology01:25

Applications Of NMR In Biology

4.7K
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a very valuable analytical technique for researchers. It has been used for more than 50 years as an analytical tool. F. Bloch and E. Purcell formulated NMR in 1946 and won the 1952 Nobel Prize in Physics  for their work. Biological macromolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and organic molecules including pharmaceutical compounds, can be studied using this versatile tool that exploits the magnetic properties of certain nuclei.

Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

6.3K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.
Cost Containment
Payment for healthcare services has historically promoted adoption of costly and often unnecessary or inefficient...

Area of Science:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Semantic Web Technologies
  • Biomedical Data Management

Background:

  • Life science research generates vast amounts of biological data.
  • Existing data access methods (databases, keyword search) struggle with integrating scattered information sources.
  • The adoption of semantic web technologies addresses data distribution challenges but introduces migration complexities.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a tool that facilitates the migration of existing systems to the semantic web.
  • To enable knowledge integration, inference rules, and query federation for scattered biological data.
  • To support the creation of semantically enhanced information systems in the biomedical domain.

Main Methods:

  • Developed Scaleus, a web-based semantic web migration tool.
  • Deployed Scaleus on top of traditional data systems.
  • Integrated knowledge representation, inference rules, and query federation capabilities.

Main Results:

  • Scaleus provides straightforward data integration for biomedical data.
  • The tool offers semantic web services to aid system development.
  • Facilitates the creation of new semantically enhanced information systems.

Conclusions:

  • Scaleus simplifies the transition to semantic web technologies for biomedical data.
  • The tool enhances data accessibility and interoperability.
  • Scaleus is available as open-source software to benefit researchers and developers.
