Summary

Low-impact flooring (LIF) significantly reduces fall-related injuries in older inpatients compared to standard vinyl flooring. However, LIF did not alter the overall risk of falling, though it presented challenges with moving heavy equipment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • A prospective, observational, nonrandomized controlled study was conducted in a 20-bed Subacute Older Persons Health ward.

  • Challenges with rolling resistance for heavy equipment on LIF require further consideration for implementation.
