Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a phytocannabinoid that primarily interacts with the CB1 receptor, a type of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly in and around the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and emetic center. Summary

Cannabis arteritis (CA), a subtype of Buerger's disease, affects young cannabis users. Cessation of cannabis use is the most effective treatment for this underdiagnosed peripheral arterial disease.

Background:

  • Cannabis arteritis (CA) is an underdiagnosed cause of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in young individuals.
  • It is increasingly prevalent and recognized as a subtype of Buerger's disease.

Observation:

  • A 34-year-old man with a 14-year history of daily tobacco and cannabis use presented with necrotic hallux.
  • Vascular imaging revealed severe Buerger's disease, leading to hallux amputation despite revascularization and anticoagulation.

Findings:

  • Cannabis use is implicated in arteriopathy, acting as a cofactor regardless of tobacco use.
  • The case highlights the link between cannabis consumption and severe peripheral arterial disease in young patients.

Implications:

  • Healthcare providers must inquire about cannabis use in young patients presenting with arteriopathy.
  • Effective management of cannabis arteritis necessitates complete cessation of cannabis consumption.
