Background:

Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is defined as unexpected death in epilepsy patients without an identified cause.
This study compiles data on SUDEP cases in Turkey, aiming to raise awareness.

Observation:

Nine cases were analyzed using hospital records and public databases.
The classification followed the 2011 International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) guidelines.
Eight cases were classified as probable SUDEP, and one as possible SUDEP.

Findings:

The mean age of SUDEP was 33 years, with an average follow-up of 19.7 years.
Identified risk factors included generalized tonic-clonic seizures, nocturnal seizures, and polytherapy.
No novel risk factors beyond established ones were found.
