LC Circuits

3.5K
An LC circuit consists of an inductor and a capacitor, either in series or parallel. Consider a charged capacitor connected with an inductor in series. Before the switch is closed, all the energy of the circuit is stored in the electric field of the capacitor. When the switch is closed, the capacitor begins to discharge, producing a current in the circuit. The current, in turn, creates a magnetic field in the inductor. Because of the induced emf in the inductor, the current cannot change...

    Area of Science:

    • Electrical Engineering
    • Materials Science
    • Additive Manufacturing

    Background:

    • Traditional methods for integrating circuits into 3D models are often complex and require specialized equipment.
    • Existing approaches may involve intricate circuit casing designs or costly setups, limiting accessibility for consumer-level applications.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To introduce the SurfCuit system, a novel method for integrating electrical circuits onto the surface of 3D printed objects.
    • To demonstrate a simplified and cost-effective approach for creating conductive circuit patterns compatible with consumer-grade 3D printers.

    Main Methods:

    • The SurfCuit system mounts circuits directly onto the surface of 3D prints.
    • It leverages standard fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printers without requiring specialized circuit casing designs or expensive equipment.
