Summary

A new visual functioning questionnaire (VFQ) was developed and validated for individuals with ultra-low vision (ULV). This ULV-VFQ demonstrates excellent psychometric properties and measurement validity for assessing functional vision in this population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and psychometrically evaluate a novel visual functioning questionnaire (VFQ) specifically for individuals with ultra-low vision (ULV).

  • Content was derived from self-reported visual activities of ULV individuals, categorized by functional domain and visual aspect.
  • An initial 149-item questionnaire was administered to 90 ULV participants (VA ≤ 20/500) in Round 1.

  • The ULV-VFQ, a product of the Prosthetic Low Vision Rehabilitation (PLoVR) program, offers a valuable new tool for assessing functional vision in ULV individuals.
