We developed middleware to simplify data sharing between REDCap electronic data capture and local systems using the Dynamic Data Pull module. This reduces technical barriers, enabling broader use of clinical and research data integration.
Area of Science:
- Biomedical Informatics
- Health Data Management
- Clinical Research Technology
Background:
- REDCap is a widely-used electronic data capture system for clinical research.
- The Dynamic Data Pull (DDP) module facilitates data integration but requires custom middleware.
- Lack of middleware hinders institutional adoption and investigator use of DDP.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a REDCap DDP web service middleware.
- To minimize developer effort and enable configuration by non-developers.
- To create a generalizable solution for integrating REDCap with local data systems.
Main Methods:
- Developed a web service middleware for REDCap DDP.
- Focused on configuration-driven setup to reduce technical expertise needed.
- Designed for broad applicability across different institutional settings.
Main Results:
- The developed middleware simplifies the integration of REDCap DDP with local systems.
- Early findings indicate the approach is successful in overcoming adoption barriers.
- The solution minimizes developer effort and is configurable by non-developers.
Conclusions:
- The novel REDCap DDP middleware successfully addresses the need for easier data integration.
- This approach lowers the barrier for institutions to leverage clinical and research data exchange.
- The middleware offers a generalizable and user-friendly solution for REDCap users.
