Background:

Common bile duct stones are typically managed by gastroenterologists using Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP).
Surgical intervention is usually reserved for large or impacted stones.
ERCP is a standard procedure for diagnosing and treating biliary and pancreatic duct issues.

Observation:

An unusual complication arose during an ERCP procedure involving an impacted dormia basket.
The impacted dormia basket obstructed the common bile duct, posing a significant clinical challenge.
This complication necessitated an unplanned and urgent surgical intervention.

Findings:

The impacted dormia basket presented a rare technical difficulty during ERCP.
Successful retrieval of the impacted dormia basket required a collaborative approach between gastroenterologists and surgeons.
Rescue surgery was critical for resolving the obstruction and preventing further complications.

Implications:

This case underscores the potential for rare but serious complications during ERCP.
It highlights the importance of surgical preparedness for managing ERCP-related emergencies.
Enhanced training in managing impacted devices during ERCP may improve patient outcomes.
