    Background:

    • Osseointegrated implants can transmit sensory information, a phenomenon known as osseoperception.
    • Understanding implant sensory feedback is crucial for functional restoration and patient satisfaction.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate and compare osseoperception of dental implants with natural dentition over six months post-loading.
    • To assess the time-dependent changes in implant sensory perception.

    Main Methods:

    • A split-mouth clinical trial involving 20 subjects (ages 40-50) with implant-supported fixed prostheses.
    • Subjects perceived the presence/absence of articulating paper of varying thicknesses placed interocclusally.
    • Evaluations were conducted immediately after cementation and at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months post-cementation.

    Main Results:

    • All subjects perceived articulating paper thickness with implant-supported prostheses.
    • Minimum detected thickness decreased post-loading, but not significantly.
    • At 6 months, implant perception matched controls in subjects with implants opposing natural teeth, but was significantly higher in those with implants in both arches.

    Conclusions:

    • Implant osseoperception progressively improved over the six-month follow-up period.
    • Perception by implants approached that of natural teeth when implants opposed natural dentition.
    • Further research may explore factors influencing osseoperception differences between implant groups.
