Abstract:
The high-pressure reaction of solid Ca3 N2 with gold in a nitrogen atomsphere affords the ternary auride nitride Ca2 AuN. In the compound, gold forms infinite, planar zigzag chains with short Au-Au bond lengths of 2.857(1) Å. The chains are sandwiched between corrugated layers of edge-sharing calcium nitride octahedra (Ca6 N; see picture).
