Summary

This study shows that steady-state visually evoked potentials (SSVEPs) can effectively measure orientation selective contrast adaptation. SSVEPs revealed reduced visual sensitivity and phase delays specifically for the adapted orientation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of SSVEPs in measuring orientation selective contrast adaptation.
  • To compare SSVEP responses before and after adaptation to a plaid stimulus.

Main Methods:

  • Participants were exposed to a plaid stimulus with horizontally and vertically oriented gratings reversing contrast at varying temporal frequencies.
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were recorded from occipital visual areas.
  • SSVEP responses were analyzed for changes in amplitude and phase following adaptation.
