Capacity, Vulnerability, and Informed Consent for Research

  • 1Ernest and Bernice Endowed Professor of Emergency Medicine and Interim Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine). In 1994, she worked with the FDA to help develop the Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) Requirements for Emergency Research. She currently serves as the Advisor for Vulnerable Populations for the Human Subjects Protection Program at the University of Minnesota.
