Summary

Treatment methods for thoracic esophageal cancer showed limited impact on survival. Surgical intervention for mid/lower thoracic esophagus offers a median survival of 19 months, while radiotherapy is palliative with a 9-month median. Regional metastases are key prognostic factors.
