Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Summary

Neonatal resuscitation practices in UK delivery units have significantly changed since 2012. Use of air for initial resuscitation and exhaled carbon dioxide monitoring increased, regardless of hospital neonatal unit level.

Background:

Previous surveys indicated variability in UK neonatal resuscitation practices, influenced by hospital neonatal unit level.
Recent updates to Resuscitation Council guidelines prompted an investigation into their impact on clinical practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the influence of updated Resuscitation Council guidelines on neonatal resuscitation practices in UK delivery units.
To compare current resuscitation practices with those from 2012.

Main Methods:

Comparative analysis of surveys on resuscitation practices at UK delivery units conducted in 2012 and 2017.
Statistical comparison of data collected from the two survey periods.

Main Results:

Increased use of air for initial resuscitation in both term (98% vs 75%) and preterm (84% vs 34%) infants from 2012 to 2017.
More frequent employment of exhaled carbon dioxide monitoring in 2017 (84%) compared to 2012 (19%).
No significant differences in practice variations were observed based on the hospital's neonatal care level.

Conclusions:

Significant shifts in neonatal resuscitation practices have occurred in UK delivery suites since 2012.
These changes in practice were consistent across hospitals, irrespective of their neonatal care level.
