Background:

Radiological bone age assessment is crucial for evaluating growth and development in children.
The Greulich and Pyle (GP) method is a widely used manual technique.
Automated software offers potential for improved standardization and efficiency.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare the correlation between manual bone age assessment (Greulich and Pyle method) and automated assessment (BoneXpert software).
To evaluate the accuracy and variability of the BoneXpert software in bone age determination.

Main Methods:

A correlation study involving 1500 carpal X-rays from patients under 16 years old.
Manual bone age assessment using the Greulich and Pyle Atlas by pediatric radiologists.
Automated bone age assessment using BoneXpert software.
Statistical analysis included Pearson's correlation coefficient and Bland-Altman analysis.

Main Results:

A high correlation (0.91-0.93) was found between manual (GP) and automated (BoneXpert) bone age assessments.
