She focuses on access to care locally and globally, consults for public health, and is a board member of Eternal Hope in Haiti. Twilla Haynes, JD, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN, was a faculty mentor for students attending the Haiti trip. She focuses on public health locally and globally and is president of Eternal Hope in Haiti.
Abstract:
Using an ethnographical case study method, faculty members examined senior nursing students' experiences and learning during a cultural immersion service-learning trip in Haiti. Pediatric care was emphasized, as well as cultural awareness and competency. Following thematic analysis, students' guided reflections revealed common themes: knowledge and skills, culture, healthcare, and challenges and opportunities. Students also reported improved cultural understanding and self-perception.
