    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of lithium carbonate on platelet counts.
    • To compare platelet counts in patients receiving lithium with and without additional psychotropic medications.
    • To assess changes in platelet counts across different patient groups and healthy controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Observational study design.
    • Inclusion of four groups: lithium only, lithium with psychotropic medication, major affective disorder (untreated), panic disorder (untreated), and healthy controls.

    • A modest increase in platelet count was observed in patients treated with lithium carbonate alone.
