Communication skills in Brazilian pharmaceutical education: a documentary analysis

Most Brazilian pharmacy curricula include communication skills, but dedicated courses are rare, indicating a need for curriculum enhancement. This study analyzed communication skills teaching in Federal Institutions of Higher Education pharmacy programs.

- Content focused on health communication principles and techniques (42.8%), with a concentration in the third and fourth years.

- Significant gaps exist in the formal inclusion of dedicated communication skills teaching within Brazilian undergraduate pharmacy curricula.
- Findings highlight the need for reflection on current models for teaching communication skills in pharmacy.
- Results are particularly relevant following the recent publication of new curricular guidelines for pharmacy programs in Brazil.
