Parental support boosts adolescents' eagerness for physical activity (EPA), which in turn enhances their moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Perceived athletic competence (PAC) also positively influences MVPA, mediating the EPA-MVPA link.
Area of Science:
- Adolescent Health
- Behavioral Science
- Physical Activity Research
Background:
- Adolescent physical activity is crucial for long-term health.
- Understanding factors influencing physical activity engagement is essential.
- Parental support and self-perceptions may play significant roles.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the association between perceived parental support and eagerness for physical activity (EPA) in adolescents.
- To examine the relationship between EPA and actual physical activity levels.
- To determine if perceived athletic competence (PAC) mediates the link between EPA and physical activity.
Main Methods:
- Cross-sectional study with 320 adolescents (12-13 years old).
- Data collected via questionnaires and accelerometers.
- Structural equation modeling used to analyze associations.
Main Results:
- Perceived parental support positively correlated with EPA (β = 0.52).
- EPA and PAC were positively associated with moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (β = 0.20 and β = 0.24, respectively).
- PAC mediated the EPA-MVPA relationship, strengthening the association (β = 0.32).
Conclusions:
- Perceived parental support is a key factor for adolescent EPA.
- EPA and PAC are important predictors of adolescent MVPA.
- Interventions promoting parental support and athletic competence may enhance adolescent physical activity.

Physical Properties Affecting Solubility
As for any solution, the solubility of a gas in a liquid is affected by the attractive intermolecular forces between solute and solvent species. Unlike solid and liquid solutes, however, there is no solute-solute intermolecular attraction to overcome when a gaseous solute dissolves in a liquid solvent since the atoms or molecules comprising a gas are far separated and experience negligible interactions. Consequently, solute-solvent interactions are the sole...
