Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if eating while working affects immediate energy intake.
  • To examine the relationship between dietary restraint and energy intake during desktop dining.

Main Methods:

  • A crossover study with 43 participants (14 males, 29 females).
  • Participants ate pizza in a control (rest) and a work condition (computer task).
  • Measurements included energy intake, stress, anxiety, and appetite levels.

  • Working while eating significantly increased stress levels.
  • No significant difference in energy intake was found between conditions.
  • Post-meal hunger was higher, and satiety was lower in the work condition.

Conclusions:

  • Findings suggest desktop dining affects appetite regulation in normal-weight individuals.
