A new silicon phase modulator uses multimode interference (MMI) waveguides to reduce scattering losses and fabrication requirements. This novel design achieves low propagation loss and spectral bandwidth, demonstrating efficient optical modulation for Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs).
