Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring01:23

Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring

2.2K
Holter monitoring is a continuous electrocardiography (ECG) recording that tracks the heart's electrical activity over an extended period, generally 24 to 48 hours. This noninvasive diagnostic tool detects irregular heart rhythms that may not be captured during a standard ECG performed in a clinical setting.DeviceThe Holter monitor is a portable, small device connected to several electrodes on the patient's chest. These electrodes detect the heart's electrical signals and transmit them to the...

Impulse

21.4K
According to Newton’s second law of motion, the rate of change of the momentum of an object is the net external force acting on it. The total change in momentum between two timepoints thus depends on both the external force acting on it and the time over which it acts. Describing this mathematically, the total change of an object’s motion is proportional to the force vector and the time over which it is applied. This product is called impulse.
Additionally, it can be shown that the...

Impulse Response01:17

Impulse Response

722
The impulse response is the system's reaction to an input impulse. In an RC circuit, the voltage source is the input, and the capacitor's voltage is the output. The system's state and output response before and after input excitation are distinctly defined.
Kirchhoff's law forms an input signal equation, with the capacitor's current and voltage providing the output. Substituting the current and dividing by RC yields a differential equation. The output for an impulse input is the impulse...

Principle of Impulse and Moment01:15

Principle of Impulse and Moment

503
When one considers a rigid body undergoing a plane motion, which is essentially a blend of translational and rotational movement, the application of Newton's second law gives the formula for the translational movement of such a body. If this equation is multiplied by a time interval, dt, and then integrated over the limits of integration, it results in an equation that embodies the principle of linear impulse.

Impulse-Momentum Theorem00:49

Impulse-Momentum Theorem

19.0K
The total change in the motion of an object is proportional to the total force vector acting on it and the time over which it acts. This product is called impulse, a vector quantity with the same direction as the total force acting on the object.
By writing Newton's second law of motion in terms of the momentum of an object and the external force acting on it, and simultaneously using the definition of the impulse vector, it can be shown that the total impulse on an object is equal to its...

Anatomical Movements00:51

Anatomical Movements

15.3K
Anatomical movements refer to the various actions or motions that can be performed by the body's joints and muscles. These movements are described using specific terms to provide a standardized way of discussing and understanding the range of motion at different joints.
Here are some common anatomical movements:
Flexion and extension motions are in the sagittal (anterior–posterior) plane of motion. These movements take place at the shoulder, hip, elbow, knee, wrist,...

Summary

Meeting the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, including sleep and screen time, is linked to lower impulsivity in children. Adhering to these guidelines may help prevent and treat impulsivity-related disorders.

Area of Science:

  • Child and Adolescent Health
  • Behavioral Science
  • Neuroscience

Background:

  • The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend 9-11 hours of sleep, ≤2 hours of recreational screen time (ST), and ≥60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily for children and youth.
  • Impulsivity is a complex trait associated with various behavioral and neurological conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the associations between adherence to the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines and dimensions of impulsivity in children aged 8-11 years.
  • To examine both individual and combined effects of sleep, screen time, and physical activity on impulsivity.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional observational study utilizing data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study.
  • Analysis included 4524 children aged 8-11 years.
  • Statistical analyses assessed the relationship between meeting movement guideline recommendations and various impulsivity dimensions.

Main Results:

  • Adherence to individual and combined movement behavior recommendations was associated with all dimensions of impulsivity.
  • Meeting all three guidelines (sleep, ST, physical activity) was linked to lower positive and negative urgency, lower Behavioral Inhibition System scores, greater perseverance, and better delay-discounting.
  • Meeting screen time and sleep recommendations specifically correlated with reduced impulsive behaviors across multiple dimensions, including urgency, perseverance, BIS, and BAS measures.

Conclusions:

  • Findings suggest that adherence to movement guidelines, particularly limiting recreational screen time and ensuring adequate sleep, is associated with lower impulsivity.
  • These results support further research into interventions combining screen time limits and sleep promotion for the treatment and prevention of impulsivity-related disorders.
