Late infra-renal aortic graft infection: a fearsome complication

  • Despite prompt antibiotic treatment and surgical explantation of the infected graft, the patient developed refractory septic shock and died post-operatively.
  • Intraoperative cultures from the infection site were negative.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the high morbidity and mortality associated with AGIs, even with aggressive management.
  • Challenges in diagnosing and treating late-onset AGIs, particularly when cultures are negative, require further investigation.
