The vestibular system is a set of inner ear structures that provide a sense of balance and spatial orientation. This system is comprised of structures within the labyrinth of the inner ear, including the cochlea and two otolith organs—the utricle and saccule. The labyrinth also contains three semicircular canals—superior, posterior, and horizontal—that are oriented on different planes.

  • Ten studies, involving 18 patients with vestibular implants, were selected for qualitative analysis.
  • All selected studies demonstrated a low risk of bias.
  • Evidence supports the restoration of the vestibulo-ocular reflex across a wide frequency range.

  • Vestibular implants are feasible for restoring the vestibulo-ocular reflex in patients with vestibular deficits.
  • This technology presents new avenues and challenges for future development.
  • Further research is needed to optimize vestibular implant technology and its clinical application.
