Extracapsular cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation rarely causes persistent high eye pressure. Close monitoring is essential, as some patients may develop secondary glaucoma months post-surgery.

Background:

  • Abnormal intraocular pressure (IOP) can occur after cataract surgery.
  • Understanding the long-term IOP effects of specific surgical techniques is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To retrospectively analyze intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements following extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) with phacoemulsification (PE) and posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC-IOL) implantation.
  • To determine the incidence of secondary pseudophakic glaucoma after ECCE and PE.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study of 242 eyes from 211 patients undergoing ECCE and PE with PC-IOL.
  • IOP measurements were taken at various intervals post-surgery.
  • Incidence of elevated IOP and secondary glaucoma was calculated.
