Background:

  • Traditional laceration repair methods (sutures, staples, glue) require extended provider time and can cause patient discomfort.
  • Noninvasive closure devices offer a potential alternative to traditional methods.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To implement and evaluate a noninvasive wound closure device (Zip Closure) in an ED setting.
  • To assess the device's impact on provider time and associated cost savings.
  • To determine patient satisfaction with the noninvasive device compared to traditional methods.

Main Methods:

  • A quality improvement project was conducted over 4 months in an ED.
  • Providers received education on the Zip Closure device.
  • Data were collected on 63 lacerations, with 6 treated using the Zip Closure device.
