Psoriatic Nephropathy and its Correlation with hs-CRP: A Case Control Study.

Psoriasis patients, especially those over 30 or with long-standing disease, show reduced kidney function and subclinical albuminuria. Inflammation, indicated by hs-CRP, correlates with renal involvement in psoriasis.

- Fifty psoriasis patients (excluding secondary renal disease causes) underwent routine and specific kidney function tests.
- Evaluated urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
- Compared results with 50 age- and sex-matched controls; assessed disease-related factors.
Main Results:
- No significant overall difference in eGFR between psoriasis patients and controls.
- Psoriasis patients over 30 showed significantly lower eGFR compared to controls (P=0.023).
- Eight percent of psoriasis patients exhibited microalbuminuria; no controls did.
Conclusions:
- Subclinical albuminuria is present in 8% of psoriasis patients.
- Reduced eGFR and glomerular dysfunction observed in psoriasis patients over 30 and those with long-standing disease.
- Positive correlation between renal involvement and hs-CRP suggests a role for inflammation.
