Screening Electrocardiograms in Cocaine-Positive Chest Pain-Free Psychiatric Patients Requiring Medical Screening

Screening electrocardiograms (ECGs) in cocaine-positive psychiatric patients without chest pain rarely reveal abnormalities. Most patients with cocaine use and normal ECGs do not require further cardiac work-up, improving emergency department efficiency.

- Abnormal ECG findings in this group did not correlate with acute cardiac events.
- Routine ECG screening may not be necessary for chest pain-free, cocaine-positive psychiatric patients.
