Background:

  • Accurate visualization of choroidal granulomas is crucial for diagnosis and management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in visualizing choroidal granulomas.
  • To compare OCTA findings with those from indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and enhanced-depth imaging OCT.

Main Methods:

  • 14 patients with granulomatous choroiditis underwent OCTA (12x12 mm field), ICGA, and enhanced-depth imaging OCT.
  • Two independent examiners analyzed OCTA images, counting flow voids in choroidal slabs.
  • Lesion areas were measured using built-in caliper tools on OCTA and ICGA.

Main Results:

  • 197 out of 209 ICGA-identified granulomas (94.3%) corresponded to flow voids on OCTA.
  • OCTA detected 104 additional flow voids not visible on ICGA.
  • Mean granuloma area was larger on ICGA (0.33 mm²) compared to OCTA (0.28 mm²).

Conclusions:

  • Swept-source OCTA is a highly sensitive imaging modality for detecting choroidal granulomas.
  • OCTA provides detailed visualization of granulomas, complementing findings from other angiography techniques.
